Hello and thank you for visiting my art gallery. My name is Alex and I am native of New York City, born and raised. I've been an artist for as long as I can remember and have exhibited my art in Northeast galleries as well as online.

I'm also a retired art educator having taught for over 30 years! Now, I'm fortunate enough to enjoy my days living in the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina and being surrounded by water, sand, boats and amazing wildlife.

I've been coming to the Outer Banks for over 10 years and I am very inspired by the sights and sounds of the region, which motivates me to create my coastal prints.

I enjoy using acrylic based ink and paint to create my coastal prints. The prints I create for the Painted Seahorse are essentially “monoprints”, combining elements of painting with the use of intaglioed foam plates. Each print is a hand-made, original work of art, and there are no computers or machines used to produce the image on paper.

I draw my coastal inspirations ` directly onto the foam plate, hand cut the plate, prepare ground colors for the subject, then ink the plate and hand press the image onto quality, heavy-weight acid-free paper.

I’m proud to share my passion for the sand and sea through my creations in an “old-school” fashion. Most prints you find for sale online are digital re-creations of originals, not “one of a kind” art, which is the focus of this site. Every print you purchase from here will be personally signed by me. Lastly, I believe that original fine art should be affordable for everyone, and so I am pricing my coastal prints at accessible market points.

I earned my BFA degree from Brooklyn College in 1992, having had the privilege to study under notable artists like Lois Dodd, Lee Bontecou, Allan D’Arcangelo and Ron Mehlman. I earned my MFA degree from Long Island University, C.W. Post. in 1995.

I'm also a retired art educator having taught for over 30 years! I’ve been blessed to have worked with amazing educators and shared my creative knowledge with thousands of students in that time.
